With Delta, Missoni’s Lifestyle Push Takes to the Skies

What’s Happening: Following a string of partnerships that saw Missoni’s punchy fabrics take over high-end resorts in Sardinia and the Maldives, the heritage Italian house teams up with Delta to offer branded amenity kits for premium passengers and even furnish the soon-to-open Delta One Lounge at JFK.

The Download: The premium Delta One experience is about to get more colorful thanks to a partnership with Missoni. Starting in July, the Italian fashion house will lend its colorful touch to branded amenity kits on routes to Italy and Paris before launching worldwide in September. Adorned with Missoni’s signature zigzag pattern, the textured zip pouches contain travel essentials like Grown Alchemist skincare products, a bamboo toothbrush, an eye mask, ear plugs, and socks. In addition to the kits, Missoni’s home collection will furnish the upcoming Delta One Lounge at JFK, which will be unveiled next Wednesday.

The partnership indicates Missoni is doubling down on lifestyle offerings, which accounted for 30 percent of the brand’s total sales in 2023. As the pendulum shifts away from the “quiet luxury” craze, it may be time for Missoni’s maximalist gestures and penchant for colorful knitwear to stand out even more. The brand has recently taken over a series of high-end resorts with its punchy fabrics and décor, including the Le Carillon beach club in Portofino, the One&Only Reethi Rah resort in the Maldives, Sardinia’s Nikki Beach Costa Esmeralda, and Rocco Forte Hotels’ Verdura Resort in Sicily. Missoni is also making a residential play with branded residences in Miami, envisioned by Missoni Home collection creative director Alberto Caliri with OKO Group, as well as interiors for projects in Dubai, Marbella, and São Paulo.

In Their Own Words: “The Missoni amenity kits have been meticulously designed, embodying a timeless declaration of elegance and a profound connection with the surrounding world,” says Alberto Caliri, Missoni’s creative director. “Additionally, customizing the Delta One Lounge at JFK signifies an important new frontier for our lifestyle approach.”

Surface Says: The airport lounge wars are taking a colorful turn.

Fine Art and Skate Culture Shake Up a Former Parisian Palace

When Colette co-founder Sarah Andelman makes moves, fashion- and art-world insiders stop and stare. This past spring, her art bookstore and literary concept shop in Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche captivated passers-through with a larger-than-life sculpture by Jean Jullien and art book merch influenced by the likes of the Strand. Now she’s applied her discerning eye to an exhibition of artist-designed skateboards in unlikely surrounds: Paris’s 18th-century palace-turned-Hôtel de Crillon.

From now until September 14, The Skateroom’s Andelman-curated exhibition of skateboards by Cindy Sherman, Juergen Teller, Jenny Holzer, Ai Weiwei, Jeff Koons, and Andy Warhol will take over the lobby and guest rooms. The overall effect isn’t unlike behind-the-scenes photos of Kirsten Dunst rocking out to a Walkman while in character for Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. What’s more, sales of a limited-edition work created with French artist Inès Longevial will benefit the Skateroom’s youth-focused philanthropic initiatives.

DESIGNER OF THE DAY

Inspired by her cabinetmaker father to pursue architecture, the New Zealand–born Alda Ly has built an enthusiastic all-female team of designers spearheading projects for bold-faced clients like Bloomberg, Christian Louboutin, and Rent the Runway. Whether a buzzy West Village bar or a medical office for a women’s healthcare startup, each of her New York–based studio’s interiors seamlessly combine comfort and wellness but still hit different notes—a result of her discovery-based process in which she responds to her clients’ experiences and leaves precedent on the table.
